Laravel Overview

Laravel is an open-source PHP framework, which is robust and easy to understand. It follows a model-view-controller design pattern. Laravel reuses the existing components of different frameworks which helps in creating a web application. The web application thus designed is more structured and pragmatic.

Laravel offers a rich set of functionalities that incorporates the basic features of PHP frameworks like CodeIgniter, Yii, and other programming languages like Ruby on Rails. Laravel has a very rich set of features that will boost the speed of web development.

If you are familiar with Core PHP and Advanced PHP, Laravel will make your task easier. It saves a lot of time if you are planning to develop a website from scratch. Moreover, a website built in Laravel is secure and prevents several web attacks.

Advantages of Laravel

Laravel offers you the following advantages when you are designing a web application based on it −

  • The web application becomes more scalable, owing to the Laravel framework.
  • Considerable time is saved in designing the web application since Laravel reuses the components from other frameworks in developing web applications.
  • It includes namespaces and interfaces, thus helping to organize and manage resources.
Composer

A composer is a tool that includes all the dependencies and libraries. It allows a user to create a project with respect to the mentioned framework (for example, those used in Laravel installation). Third-party libraries can be installed easily with help of composers.

All the dependencies are noted in the composer.json file which is placed in the source folder.

Artisan

The Command line interface used in Laravel is called Artisan. It includes a set of commands which assists in building a web application. These commands are incorporated from the Symphony framework, resulting in add-on features in Laravel 5.1 (the latest version of Laravel).

Features of Laravel

Laravel offers the following key features which make it an ideal choice for designing web applications −

Modularity

Laravel provides 20 built-in libraries and modules which help in the enhancement of the application. Every module is integrated with Composer dependency manager which eases updates.

Testability

Laravel includes features and helpers which help in testing through various test cases. This feature helps in maintaining the code as per the requirements.

Routing

Laravel provides a flexible approach for the user to define routes in the web application. Routing helps to scale the application in a better way and increases its performance.

Configuration Management

A web application designed in Laravel will be running on different environments, which means that there will be a constant change in its configuration. Laravel provides a consistent approach to handling the configuration in an efficient way.

Query Builder and ORM

Laravel incorporates a query builder which helps in querying databases using various simple chain methods. It provides ORM (Object Relational Mapper) and ActiveRecord implementation called Eloquent.

Schema Builder

Schema Builder maintains the database definitions and schema in PHP code. It also maintains a track of changes with respect to database migrations.

Template Engine

Laravel uses the Blade Template engine, a lightweight template language used to design hierarchical blocks and layouts with predefined blocks that include dynamic content.

E-mail

Laravel includes a mail class that helps in sending mail with rich content and attachments from the web application.

Authentication

User authentication is a common feature in web applications. Laravel eases designing authentication as it includes features such as registering, forgetting passwords, and sending password reminders.

Redis

Laravel uses Redis to connect to an existing session and general-purpose cache. Redis interacts with the session directly.

Queues

Laravel includes queue services like emailing a large number of users or a specified Cron job. These queues help in completing tasks in an easier manner without waiting for the previous task to be completed.

Event and Command Bus

Laravel 5.1 includes Command Bus which helps in executing commands and dispatch events in a simple way. The commands in Laravel act as per the application’s lifecycle.

Junior Developer Survival Tips
In this article, we will go through the most important tips that may help you to become a better junior developer. these tips are collected during ten years of experience and through connecting with more than 50 Junior developer.

1. Ask a lot of questions and don’t be afraid:
If you want to be senior developer you have to ask question and a lot of them. You can ask you teammate or other developers with more experience than you. But be smart there is a specific way to ask question. First you have to know the maximum allowed time trying to solve the problem you facing, after that you can go and ask questions. But be sure to document what you have already tried so the person you are asking doesn’t have to waste time. In addition, if you have many editions sort them by priority. Don’t just get the answer try to learn from the other problem-solving technique which is better than just get the answer and try to understand what you are writing not just copy and paste the correct code. Finally, you may ask the same question that you asked before don’t be afraid because having multiple answer from multiple people will improve your problem-solving ability.

2. Learning best practices is very important things to do beside writing your code:
If you want to be senior developer you don’t have to learn coding only but you must follow the international basics of programming best practices. You can learn them from online, there are a lot of them at least you have to know the most important like:
  • Clean code
  • Pair programming
  • TDD
  • Design pattern
  • SOLID principle

3. Request a good mentorship:
Good mentor is a life hack in becoming a really good developer and useful for your company in much less time than it would take you alone. The path you are in now many people was here in the past. Good mentor can save a lot of time putting you on the right way of how to become senior developer in much much less time than you do with normal mentor or alone, since he already passed by what you are passing know and mainly, he knows the best way and the mostly the shortest way.

4.  Getting feedback:
Always asked for feedback from someone how has more experience. If this feedback is a good one and tells you that you are on the right way go and improver your steps to go faster and if it is negative feedback to be afraid just get the point the you did mistake at and try to correct it and solve it. Feedbacks are very important to check your result because if you are doing good it will encourage you to do more and if you did something wrong it redirects you to the right way

5.  Learn how to test and debug your code alone
The most difficult phase in programming the testing phase. it is really important that you learn to test and debug your code because t The quality of your testing ability indicates the difference between junior, mid-level and senior developers. Testing and debugging has steps to pass through:
  • Know that a bug exists.
  • Isolate the source.
  •  Identify the cause.
  • Determine a fix.
  • Apply the fix and test it.
  • Repeat step 4 - 5 until your test success.

6.  Share your knowledge with your teammate
The best way to test if you got what you learned is teach what did you learned. Sharing your knowledge with your friend is must since it will fixed your knowledge and make you always UpToDate and it the most important things that you will gain main point of leader character.
At the end there are lot of tips but for me these are the most important. These what I did when I’m junior developer and this what take me from junior developer to be senior in the shortest time.
